Jodie's happy ending ...
Four days after losing our loved black Labrador, Luther, we heard about Jodie – learning only that she was a 13 month old first-generation “cream shaggy” who needed re-homing.
We could not conjure up a picture of her in our minds and so, without even seeing her photograph, we both decided that we would travel the 45 miles up the M5 to Birmingham to meet her.
We were totally smitten the moment her foster-mum, Eileen, opened the front door and allowed us to be greeted by this beautiful, happy, friendly (and at first somewhat bouncy) four-legged “cream shaggy”.
It was immediately obvious from her condition, character and attitude that she had left a home where she had been loved and well cared for and we knew straight away that we were very lucky to be offered the chance of becoming her new owners
Having gracefully stepped into the back of our hatchback, Jodie keenly watched the following traffic through the rear window for about five minutes as we set off on our homeward journey. Then she settled down to sleep for the return trip down the M5, only arising as we turned into our driveway.
Although she has such a sweet nature and is very friendly, she soon learned that Pyewacket, our siamese, considers himself to be the boss of anything else in the house with four legs and they now have a mutual and healthy respect for each other. They often share the same bed, but we still find it best to feed them apart.
At the end of her first day, after tickling her tummy for a few minutes, we left Jodie sleeping on her bed in the kitchen and never heard a peep out of her for the whole night – and every night since it has been the same.
We are lucky enough to live right by a large park and lake where we take Jodie for good walks, both on and off the lead, at least twice a day. All Luther’s old mates have accepted her into the fold and she recognises and greets many of them daily. The Cotswolds are only ten minutes by car, where she can run to her heart’s content. She also appears to be a “water-baby” which suits us fine, as there are many lakes and rivers nearby and we often spend a lot of time on the south coast.
Well, Jodie has been with us now for nearly three weeks and has settled into our home and routine so quickly and willingly, it’s as though she has always been part of the family. She is a joy to be with and we hope she feels the same.
We hope to give each other many years of love and happiness.
Thanks to all who helped us to adopt her - Alison, Eileen and Astrid. And a thank you also to her previous owners, for making her what she is. We promise to do all we can to give her a wonderful life.
